Installation, performance and film at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Dench Studio (June 25 - 29, 2018).
This piece interrogated the legacies and untold histories of colonialism, and the impact of this on the present. I explored sugar and its properties - physically and metaphorically - as a vehicle to convey these stories. By creating an abstract sugar refinement factory, I was able to highlight the complex past sugar has had with its connection to slavery and indenture, deconstructing the refinement process in order to further explore ideas on race, identity and labour.
